It is a winter dormant plant but come spring it pops up with bright green blades of grass-like foliage that turn cranberry red in summer and progresses to a dark burgundy colour by autumn before going dormant again in winter
dark-burgundy stems rise upward and display loose clusters of five-petalled
so a raised bed or rock garden can be a perfect spot for it
We find that this plant thrives well in average but well drained soils in full sun although it will appreciate some afternoon shade where you get hot summer temperatures
